Teenz is our upper age group catering for 12 to 14 year olds, who are notoriously difficult to please! The Teenz age range is slightly different in that alongside activities from our Mainstream Major League programme incorporating activities such as ice skating, ten-pin bowling, cinema and swimming they also choose an activity section before the Playscheme which follows a specialised program of activities throughout the week tailored to their interests.
Whilst, like MML, they may be in different groups for registration, once it comes to the activity sessions the four groups stay together as a large group (or two squads in the case of Just4Fun). This means that if two Teenz are in different groups in Outdoor Adventure, for example, they will typically be at the same activity location as each other for the majority of their week.
The four groups are combined together in one base tent known as the Teenz Army. This is a way of encouraging competition throughout the sections , helps to establish the ‘chain of command’ between the Teenz and their leaders and helps to engage children in the teamwork. However we are careful to ensure that this is a fun experience at all times and there is no connotation with violence or any other negative aspects of the military theme.
The activities given are an example of the sort of activities that these groups have done in the past. With each new year we add new activities into the Teenz programme, keeping the more popular ones and replacing others with new and exciting experiences to keep even the most “teenage” of teenagers interested! Because we amend the programme right up until the scheme opens it is not possible to guarantee all the activities listed, but they give you a flavour of the type of activities to expect in each of the groups.
The sections for 2015 are:
The Just4Fun group is a mixture of activities for those who can’t decide just what they want to do. Along with a wider range of activities from our mainstream programme, the Just 4Fun section also get additional activities such as a Roller Disco or Laser Tag tournament, as well as specialist on-site activities like sports coaching or craft activities. The section is spilt into two squads – the Reds and the Blues – who gain points for their squad throughout the week and compete for victory!
B – Outdoor Adventure
The Outdoor Adventure group follows a programme of activities specifically focused on the outdoors for their specialism. They are based for a number of days at a local off-site outdoor pursuits centre, where they have the opportunity to find their inner Bear Grylls as they learn skills such as Archery, Raft-building, Orienteering, Cooking on an open fire and much more.
C – World of Sport
World of Sport (as its name suggests) allows the group to experience a wide range of sporting activities across many disciplines. The sports can be as varied as Thai boxing, tennis, hockey, street running and football to name but a few. We use qualified coaches where appropriate with sessions taking place both on-site with our specialist sports staff and also at external venues such as football grounds and sports centres.
D – Studio Cre8 – *** NEW for 2015 ***
The Studio Cre8 group is a new section that combines and improves on the Health & Beauty and Artz groups of previous years. The Studio Cre8 group allows the Teenz opportunities to express themselves creatively in a range of different media, and could include sessions on fashion and appearance through make-over and clothes designing sessions, photography sessions (both in front of and behind the camera) with a professional photographer, Zombie and special effects make-up, graffiti art, recording studio sessions, dance and drama performances, and more. This group will also be more tailored than the others with different Teenz doing different activities within the group that interest them, to reflect the interests of the individuals, make it equally relevant and interesting to both genders (so there would be an alternative option to sessions such as the make-over workshops for example), allow individuals to express themselves how they choose, and possibly even adapt the programme during the week if we can accommodate and source an activity that they are particularly interested in.
As well as all our off-site activities we provide a massive range of on-site activities such as Pottery, Face-Painting, DJ skills, Dance workshops and of course the infamous Big-Show! Each and every day on Playscheme the show is a central heart of the whole scheme, full of fun competitions and silly games for all ages. It’s sure to get messy on the Director’s Tea Party on the Thursday and we have visiting acts and artists from across the North-West to keep all ages entertained.
The four groups in Teenz are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and there are limited numbers in each due to the nature of certain activities and the size limitations of some of our off-site venues. Therefore it is important to book early to avoid disappointment as they fill up quickly after registration opens, and changes cannot be accommodated once a group is full.
