Leyland Playscheme - Get Involved

est. 1974 - Providing Quality childcare across the North West during the summer break

It is only through the unending commitment of our army of volunteers that the Playscheme keeps going from strength to strength. It's great that you are interested in volunteering.

As you will understand each and every one of our volunteers has to be checked and trained to our high standards. To this end all volunteers need to attend one of our Play Leadership training days and apply for an Enhanced DBS clearance. (There is no charge for any of this to our volunteers)

What is Playscheme?

Playscheme is a registered charity that strives to provide a valuable service to parents and children in the locality, as well as undertaking to provide an opportunity for young people to give back to their local community as volunteer play leaders. Children aged 5-14 attend each Playscheme from Monday to Friday, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, participating in various trips as well as numerous onsite activities with their leaders. Marquees provide a unique and exciting setting, and our buses are seen travelling all over the area, as are the 1000 children singing Playscheme songs. We ask parents to contribute towards the cost of their child attending Playscheme but we heavily subsidise this, and offer many free places to families experiencing challenging circumstances. We are also fully inclusive, and able to provide one-to-one provision for children with physical disabilities and those with special education needs who are fully integrated into our schemes.

Why volunteer?

You may not be paid for Playscheme, but it is a fantastic volunteer opportunity and there are a range of other benefits in taking part. There is the opportunity for you to select the age group you would prefer to work with, and we recognise the skill-base and experience many volunteers already have, with the option to become workshop leaders in Sports and Games, Arts and Crafts or one of our other workshops. Volunteers who already have experience of working with children may also choose to become a key worker, facilitating the inclusion and participation of children with special educational needs on Playscheme. You will undertake essential play leadership training and there are other opportunities in first aid, face painting and many other skills. Free return transport is available from a wide range of locations to the Playscheme site throughout the week. All activities during the Playscheme week are free, new friendships are forged and all volunteers look forward to our Survivor’s Dance when Playscheme is over! You will receive a certificate on completion of your play leadership training and one for each week of voluntary service. Playscheme can be that bit of something extra that an employer, college or university are looking for!
